COLLEGE SOFTBALL: TIOGA GRAD VERGASON HELPS KEUKA COLLEGE TO DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP (2017-04-07)

Valley Sports Report
KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — Tioga grad Brittany Vergason, a freshman on the Keuka College softball team, drove in runs in each game of a double-header sweep of Wells College here Wednesday afternoon.

Vergason, who got off to a good start this season with four hits in her first 11 at-bats, broke out of a recent slump with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate in Keuka’s 16-4 win in the nightcap of the twinbill. She tripled and singled, scored three runs, drove in a run, and stole home.

Waverly grad Megan Wilbur, a senior, also singled, scored a run, and drove in a run in the nightcap.

Vergason, who played third base in both games of the doubleheader, contributed an RBI groundout in Keuka’s 8-0 win in the opener.

On the season, Vergason is hitting .214 (6 hits in 28 ABs) with a triple, three RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases.

Vergason, who has seen action in left field and at third base, has handled all 23 defensive chances this season flawlessly.

Wilbur has appeared in seven games and is 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.

Keuka College, now 5-5, returns to action Saturday when it hosts SUNY Poly in a doubleheader.
