WAVERLY — Waverly seniors Hunter Bodine and Jon Ward both earned Class B all-state recognition on the basketball hardwoods in recent voting by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
Hunter, who was Section IV, Class B “Co-Player of the Year,” along with Norwich senior Chris Haskell, was named 13th team all-state, while Ward was named to the 14th team.
Bodine averaged 17 points, 5.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game to lead the Wolverines, and also knocked down 49 3-pointers. He shot 46.5 percent from the field, including 35 percent from 3-point range.
He also scored a school-record 45 points in a win over Union-Endicott, a performance which also included a Section IV record 11 3-pointers.
Ward, a 6-5 senior, averaged a double-double on the season, scoring 13.1 points per game and hauling down 10.1 rebounds per game. He also averaged 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals per game.
He shot 48.4 percent from the field, including 36.2 percent from behind the 3-point arc.
Also from Section IV Class B, Susquehanna Valley senior Austin Haskell and Norwich senior Chris Haskell were both fourth-team selections, while Seton Catholic junior Leo Gallagher was a ninth-team pick, and Seton Catholic junior Peter Hartrick was a 12th-team selection.
Norwich senior Dashawn King received honorable mention recognition.
In Class C, Moravia senior Gabe Short was co-Player of the Year in New York State, while Trumansburg’s Austin Grunder was a first-team selection, and Notre Dame’s Derrick Stark was a second-team pick.
Moravia’s Jordan Cosgrove was a fourth-team selection, Unadilla Valley’s Andrew Jackson was a seventh-team pick.
Walton’s Alex Tweedie and Union Springs’ Nick Valentino both received honorable mention recognition.
