WAVERLY — Waverly landed four players on the IAC South Large School first-team all-star team, led by senior Shailei Kraft, in recent voting by the division’s coaches.
Sophomore Wendi Hammond, junior Zoe Mennig, and freshman Riley Hall also earned first-team honors.
Shailei Kraft, senior, SS, Waverly: Kraft hit an astounding .689 on the season with a team-high 42 hits in 61 at-bats. She had a team-high 19 extra-base hits, including team highs in doubles with 13 and triples with five.
Kraft also led the team with 36 runs scored, and 34 RBI, and was second on the team with 20 stolen bases. She walked five times, and struck out just three times in 68 plate appearances.
Kraft had an on-base percentage of .712, and a slugging percentage of 1.115 for an amazing 1.827 OPS.
Wendi Hammond, sophomore, P, Waverly: Hammond logged a 9-6 record on the season with a 2.04 ERA. She fanned 109 batters and walked just 27 in 92 2/3 innings on the mound, and allowed just 78 hits.
Hammond also hit .527 (29 hits in 55 ABs) with five doubles, three triples, two home runs, 14 RBI, 33 runs scored, and a team-high 22 stolen bases.
Zoe Mennig, junior, C, Waverly: Mennig hit .426 on the season (26 hits in 61 ABs) with six doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 16 runs scored. She was second on the team with 27 RBI, and third on the team with 11 stolen bases.
Mennig walked three times, and struck out just three times in 66 plate appearance. Mennig had a .453 on-base percentage, and a .656 slugging percentage for an OPS of 1.109.
Riley Hall, freshman, 3B, Waverly: Hall was third on the team with a .519 batting average (28 hits in 54 ABs), and was second on the team with 12 extra-base hits, including nine doubles, and a team-high three home runs. She was also third on the team with 25 RBI, and scored 12 runs.
Hall had a .587 on-base percentage, and an .852 slugging percentage, which was second on the team, for an OPS of 1.439, which was third on the team.
The other first-team selections were Notre Dame seniors Maura Glovins, Mackenzie Mahajan, and Mackenzie Maloney, and Notre Dame juniors Courtney Crater, and Izzy Milazzo, as well as Edison senior Laura Tryon, Edison juniors Haley Maggs, and Mackenzie Bonyak, and Edison sophomores Jodie Burdick, and Bella Wilsey, and Newark Valley’s Morgan Sherwood.
Thee second team is comprised of Notre Dame juniors Ally Wichtowski and Hannah Mahon, and sophomore Jordyn Fargo, Edison senior Leigha Jones, and freshman Riley Vincent, Watkins Glen seniors Brianna Solomon and Mikenna Ayers, and junior Kaitlyn Kurren, and Newark Valley’s Cassidy Hoffmeir, and Laura Durand.
