VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: SAYRE FRESHMAN MURRELLE HEADLINES 2014-15 ALL-VALLEY "SUPER 7" GOLF TEAM (2015-06-23)

THE VALLEY — Sayre freshman Ryan Murrelle made an immediate impact in his freshman season on the links, and finished strong with a second place showing at the District 4 Championships — a key reason he was named the 2014-15 Valley Sports Report “Golfer of the Year.”

Murrelle, who was named the NTL’s “Rookie of the Year,” is also the Valley Sports ReportNewcomer of the Year,” edging out Tioga 7th-grader Sam Taylor for the honor.

Murrelle, who was a first-team NTL all-star, shot an 88 at PIAA East Regionals — seven shots off the cutline for States.

Zach Sitzman, junior, Athens: Sitzman had another outstanding season, finishing second int he NTL in scoring for the second straight year. He also finished in the top 10 in every league meet for the second straight year.

Sitzman, a first-team NTL all-star, also qualified for the District 4 Championships for the third consecutive year.

Alex Tomasso, 8th-grader, Waverly: Just an 8th-grader, Tomasso earned her second trip to the New York State Championships with a second-place finish at the Section IV Championships.

Noah Schumacher, senior, Tioga: Schumacher earned low-medal honors at the IAC Small School Championships and was seventh at the Class C Championships.

He finished his season with a third trip to the Section IV Individual Championships.

Sam Taylor, 7th-grader, Tioga: Taylor was fourth at the IAC Small School Championships and then turned in a third-place finish at the Class C Championships.

Taylor, who earned low-medal honors in his first varsity match, also qualified for the Section IV Individual Championships.

Patrick Cole, senior, Athens: Cole finished off a stellar high school career with his third trip to the District 4 Championships. He ranked seventh in the NTL in scoring average and was a second-team all-star selection.

Jacob Aquilio, junior, Athens:
  Aquilio, who was third on the Wildcats in scoring during the regular season. was the only Athens golfer to qualify for the second day of the District 4 Championships. He ranked ninth in scoring in the NTL and was a second-team all-star.
