VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: TIOGA'S HUTCHINSON IS 2015-16 "MALE NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR" (2016-06-23)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY — Tioga sophomore Connor Hutchinson stepped into the starting line-up for two teams this year and provided an immediate impact, including quarterbacking the Tigers to their first-ever state title on the gridiron, to earn the 2015-16 Valley Sports Report “Male Newcomer of the Year.”

Calm and composed, Hutchison seamlessly took the reigns of the Tioga offense, directing them to a division title, a fifth straight Section IV title, the program’s first win in five tries in the state semifinals, and finally a win in the state championship game.

In the state title game, Hutchinson completed 6 of 8 passes for 76 yards and was intercepted once. He also scored on a 4-yard TD run and tacked on a two-point conversion.

For the season, he completed 36 of 64 passes for 700 yards and eight TDs, while being intercepted just twice. He also rushed for 150 yards and two TDs.

On the hardwoods, Hutchinson was a first-team all-IAC selection, averaging 10 points per game (second on the team) and five rebounds at the shooting guard position.

Hutchinson was a Valley Sports Report “Super 7 Newcomer” in the fall and winter seasons.

Honorable Mention:  Waverly junior Jon Ward (basketball), Athens sophomore Zach Jayne (football), Tioga freshman Pierce Hendershot (baseball), Waverly 8th-grader Isaac Chandler (indoor and outdoor track & field), and Tioga 8th-grader Ezra Steele (cross country and track & field).
