FLEMING, FLOYD EARN "BOWLER OF THE YEAR" HONORS

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — The final week of league bowling saw five more perfect games (making 10 in the final two weeks) rolled here at the Valley Bowling Center, including a pair by Bob Petruschak.

Petruschak rolled the only 800 series of the week, an 803 to bring the total in the men’s division in 2016-17.

The high series of the season was an 836, rolled by J.R. Fleming, who also earned “Bowler of the Year” in the men’s division.

Joining Petruschak with perfect games was Adam Madigan, Lynn Richter, who also rolled a 300 in the senior men’s division this year, and Tim Woodcock, a Waverly High School senior who rolled his first 300 as a sanctioned adult bowler.

For Madigan, it was his fifth 300 of the season, tying him with Fleming for the most in 2016-17. Mark Walters rolled four in the men’s division. There were 66 perfect games this season.

Speaking of Walters, he saved his best for last in the senior men’s division, rolling a season-high 814 series, knocking Bob Leonard Sr.’s 805 out of the top spot in the Top 25. Leonard Sr. rolled a 762, which ranks 11th on the season.

Walters and Leonard combined to roll the top 13 series in the senior men’s division this season. Leonard rolled three of the four 800 series this year.

Walters also had the high game for the week with a 279. Walters, Leonard Sr., and Richter rolled the only three perfect games in 2016-17 in the division.

Longtime VBC stalwart Phyllis Surber topped the charts in the women’s division with a 633 series, and Andrea Fairchild rolled the high game with a 248.

Belinda Floyd had the second-best series of the week to sew up the “Bowler of the Year” honors, ending out three-time winner Sheila Wolcott by just 5 1/2 points — the closes finish ever in either the women’s or men’s divisions.

Desirae Waltman threw the high series in the women’s division this season with a 784, and also had the only 300 game of the season. Wolcott rolled three of the seven 700 series for the women.

Marge Fuller led the senior women’s field with a 492 series, while Arlene Howe had the high game with a 208.
