SAYRE / WAVERLY LITTLE LEAGUE (8U): SAYRE CRUISES PAST TIOGA-ELKLAND, 11-4 — IMPROVES TO 2-0 IN POOL PLAY (17 PHOTOS) (2017-07-10)

ATHENS — Sayre scored five runs in each of the first two innings and cruised to an 11-4 win over Tioga-Elkland here Monday night in pool play action in the Gilbert-Brown 8U baseball tournament.

Tioga-Elkland took a quick 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Mason Apgar’s three-run inside-the-park home run in the home half of the frame put Sayre ahead 3-2. Jordan Vanderpool capped the rally with an RBI single.

In the second inning, Justin Koenig plated three runs with a triple, and Chase Wheeler capped the rally with an RBI single.

Sayre tacked on a final run in the fifth inning on back-to-back singles by Wheeler and Apgar.

Apgar had three hits, including a home run, and scored one run to lead Sayre at the plate, while Koenig tripled and singled, and scored three runs, and Wheeler doubled and singled, and scored one run.

Brady Flynn, Tanner Ross, Caleb Simons, Riley McGaughey, Jayden Smith and Cameron Ross each crossed the plate once.

Sayre improves to 2-0 in pool play.

Sayre 10, Waverly 9

Sayre scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 10-9 win over Waverly Friday evening in pool play action at the Gilbert-Brown 8U Tournament.

Cameron Ross singled twice to lead Sayre at the plate, while Justin Koenig singled and scored two runs, and Chase Wheeler, Tucker Greene and Mason Apgar each singled and scored one run.

Caleb Simmons and Jordan Vanderpool each added a single, while Jamison Gardner scored a pair of runs, and Brady Flynn, Riley McGaughey, and Jayden Smith scored one run apiece.

Griffen Walter stroked three singles and scored one run to lead Waverly at the plate, while Jack Pipher and Rylan Yeakel singled and scored twice, Brandon Bennett singled and scored a run, and Hayden Roskow, Noah Vanderwark, and Todd Laforest each scored a run.
