BLOOMSBURG — Keystone raced out to an 11-0 lead and cruised to a 12-2 four-inning win over Athens here Monday evening in opening game of the Section 3 Minors Division baseball playoffs, hosted by Bloomsburg Little League.
Keystone scored three runs in the first inning, then added four more in the second and third innings to build an 11-0 advantage.
Athens got on the board in the top of the fourth in an RBI single by Ethan Hicks, and a steal of home by Dylan Saxon to trim the deficit to 11-2.
Keystone ended the game in the home half of the fourth inning with a run to trigger the 10-run “mercy” rule.
Saxon singled twice and scored a run to pace Athens’ six-hit attack, while Hicks singled, drove in a run, and stole two bases, and Nick Grazul singled and scored a run.
Jase Babcock and Eli Hobday each added a single for Athens.
Athens returns to action Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when it squares off against Upper Dauphin, which dropped a 24-6 decision to Danville, in an elimination game.
