HORSEHEADS — The Stealin’ Home 11U travel baseball team wrapped up its summer season with a third-place finish here in the Falcons for a Cure Tournament at Holing Point Sports Complex.
Stealin’ Home went 2-0-1 in pool play, then won convincingly in the quarterfinals, before falling to the host Finger Lakes Falcons in the semifinals.
Stealin’ Home 12, High Heat 1
Stealin’ Home jumped out to an early lead then blew the game open late in a 12-1 five inning win over High Heat Friday afternoon in pool play action.
Stealin’ Home scored twice in the top of the first and built a 4-0 lead through 3 1/2 innings. After High Heat scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, SH plated eight runs in the top of the fifth inning to ice the victory.
NEB’s Clay Wiggins doubled and singled, scored one run, and drove in a run, Athens’ Josh Martin singled twice and scored two runs, and S-VE’s Tyler Beeman singled twice and knocked in a run to pace SH’s 13-hit attack, while Athens’ Lucas Kraft doubled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Athens’ Troy Rosenbloom and Nicholas Jacob each singled, scored one run, and knocked in a run.
Athens’ Korey Miller and Tyler Roe each singled and scored a pair of runs in the win, while Waverly’s Jay Pipher singled and scored a run, and Athens’ Kaiden Rowe singled, scored a run, and drive in a run.
Kraft started on the mound for SH, allowing one hit and striking out one in two scoreless innings. Pipher relieved and allowed an unearned run on two walks, while striking out one. Jacob closed out the game, allowing two hits in a scoreless inning of relief.
Stealin’ Home 7, Syracuse Spartans 7
Stealin’ Home scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to salvage a tie against the Syracuse Spartans Friday evening in the second game of pool play.
The Spartans scored three runs in the top of the first, and built its lead to 6-1 through 3 1/2 innings. Stealin’ Home plated four runs in the home half of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to 6-5, then scored a pair of runs in the sixth for the tie.
Stealin’ Home only had five hits in the game, but took advantage of seven base on balls, and six Spartan errors.
SH pitching allowed eight hits, and did not walk a batter, but the defense committed eight errors.
Roe led SH at the plate with two singles, two runs scored, and an RBI, while Rowe singled, scored a run, and drove in two runs, Jacob singled and drove in a run, and Pipher doubled and scored a run.
Martin scored a run, and drove in a run for SH, while Beeman and Rosenbloom each scored a run.
Jacob turned in the best turn on the mound for SH, allowing an unearned run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Stealin’ Home 13, RHAA Hitmen 5
For the second time in pool play, Stealin’ Home banged out 13 hits, this time in a 13-5 win over the RHAA Hitmen to improve to 2-0-1.
Stealin’ Home, which scored three runs in the top of the first inning, scored twice in the third inning to break a 3-3 tie, then plated five runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to take a 13-3 lead.
Wiggins was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI to lead SH at the plate, while Kraft singled twice, scored one run, and drove in three runs, and Miller singled twice, stole three bases, and drove in two runs.
Roe doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in a run in the win, while Jacob singled twice and scored two runs, Pipher doubled, scored two runs, and had three RBI, Martin singled and scored a run, Beeman scored a pair of runs, and Rosenbloom crossed the plate once.
Miller pitched all five innings to earn the win for SH. He allowed two earned runs on three hits, while striking out five and walking four.
Stealin’ Home 11, Lil Peeps 1
Stalin’ Home scored four runs in the home half of the second to break a 1-1 tie, then plated five more in the third inning en route to an 11-1 four-inning win over Lil Peeps in the quarterfinals.
Kraft tossed a one-hitter to earn the win, striking out three and walking one in a complete-game effort.
Pipher, who had two stolen bases, and Miller each singled twice and scored two runs to lead SH’s 10-hit attack, while Rowe doubled, scored two runs, and had three RBI, and Beeman singled, scored two runs, and knocked in a run.
Wiggins doubled, scored a run, and drove in a run in the win, while Jacob and Roe each singled and knocked in a run, Kraft doubled and scored a run, and Rosenbloom scored a run, and knocked in a run.
Finger Lakes Falcons 6, Stealin’ Home 1
The Finger Lakes Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie, then tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning en route to a 6-1 win over Stealin’ Home in the semifinals Sunday.
Martin singled twice and scored a run to pace Stealin’ Home’s six-hit attack, while Pipher doubled, and Kraft, Miller, and Rowe each added a single.
Jacob struck out two and walked two in a complete-game performance for SH.
