NTL GIRLS SOCCER: NOTRE DAME TOPS SAYRE, 4-0; WINS CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IN OWN TOURNEY (2017-09-09)

Valley Sports Report
SOUTHPORT, N.Y. — Notre Dame scored three second-half goals to pull away from Sayre in a 4-0 win to win the championship game of its own tournament here Saturday night in non-league girls soccer action.

The teams battled scores for more than 34 minutes until Ellie Mustico knocked a shot past Sayre keeper senior Blair Wampole, who had stopped the Lady Crusaders’ first six shots on goal in the game.

Less than a minute prior to Mustico’s goal, Sayre junior Stephanie Klovekorn nearly broke the scoreless tie, but her free kick rattled off the crossbar.

Mustico scored again a little more than five minutes into the second half, then Courtney Crater scored about two minutes later to make it 3-0.

Maddie Watts capped the scoring with about 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the contest.

Notre Dame had a 20-5 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Wampole recorded 11 saves in net for the Lady Redskins, while Taylor Gray had three saves for Notre Dame.

Sayre, now 2-1, will host Williamson Monday.
