IAC CROSS COUNTRY: TIOGA GIRLS NOTCH TWO WINS; STEELE FINSHES FOURTH FOR BOYS (2017-09-12)

WATKINS GLEN ó The Tioga girls notched a pair of wins, and sophomore Ezra Steele turned in a strong performance here Tuesday afternoon in IAC cross country action.

GIRLS
Dryden 34, Tioga 63, Groton 100, Watkins Glen 100

Freshman Faith Burrowes finished 10th to lead Tioga to wins over Groton and Watkins Glen, which did not field full teams.

Burrowes clocked in at 27:54 in the 2.8-mile course, while senior Lauren Tinney finished 11th in 28:32, senior Alex Divers was 12th in 28:58,  freshman Kindra Wessels was 14th in 33:19, and senior Jenna Steele was 16th in 34:52.

Watkins Glenís Katie Sutterby won the race in a time of 21:06.6.

BOYS
Watkins Glen 26, Dryden 61, Groton 84, Tioga 100

Steele finished fourth in a time of 17:37, but the Tigers dropped a trio of decisions.

Freshman Evan Hubbard finished 21st in 21:28 for Tioga, while freshman Brayden Vargason was 22nd in 21:31, junior Lucas Klossner was 25th in 21:39, freshman Lucas Nichols was 28th in 23:14, and freshman Kyle Earley 29th in 23:16.

Watkins Glenís Aaron Planty won the race in a time of 17:15.7, edging his brother Gabe Planty by 0.2 seconds.

MODIFIED GIRLS
Tiogaís Kate Burrowes finished 10th with a time of 13:10 on the 1.5-mile course in the modified girls race, while Mariah Nichols was 11th in 13:11.
