|IAC BOYS SOCCER: SVEC PULLS OUT 3-2 WIN OVER NEWFIELD (2017-10-06)

NEWFIELD — Senior Zack Sherwood scored with six minutes left in the game to lift SVEC to a 3-2 win over Newfield here Friday afternoon in IAC South Small School Division boys soccer action.
The win keeps the Eagles, now 4-7, in the hunt for a postseason berth. With a win Tuesday at Watkins Glen, they’ll qualify for the upcoming Section IV, Class C playoffs.
Newfield scored midway through the first half, but sophomore Alex Doucett tied the game up with 12:36 remaining, off an assist from sophomore Lance Jensen.
Sophomore Daniel Thomas, off a feed from freshman Ian Porter, scored about three minutes into the second half to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Newfield’s Chris Baker scored with 16:36 remaining in the game to tie the game at 2-2.
About 10 1/2 minutes later, Jensen set up Sherwood for the game-winner.
SVEC had a 13-12 edge in shots-on-goals, and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Eagle keeper Jake Wentworth had five saves.
