TIOGA CENTER — Emma Morgan scored in the final seconds of the first half, and Newark Valley tacked on an insurance goal in the second half in a 2-0 season-ending win over Tioga here Friday afternoon in Section IV, Division III field hockey action.

“The girls really came together and played well against Newark Valley,” said Tioga coach Jackie Taylor. “e just couldn't knock it in the cage; that was probably the best we've seen them work together as a team all season.

“They've all improved a lot this season and while it's bittersweet to have seven seniors graduating, I 
think our future is looking bright in the years to come,” added Taylor.

Cassidy Hoffmier, who recorded an assist on Morgan’s goal, scored on a hard shot that took a big hop over the shoulder of Tioga keeper Rachel Whitcomb and into the upper corner of the cage with 11:41 left in the game.

Newark Valley had a 15-7 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 9-3 edge in penalty corners.

Whitcomb recorded 11 saves for the Lady Tigers.

Tioga wraps up the 2016 campaign with a 3-12 record.
