PITTSTON, Pa. — Sayre Recreation Wrestling had 11 wrestlers place in the top four, led by Jameison Gardner and Brady Flynn, here Sunday at the Pittston Wrestling Tournament.
Gardner and Flynn won individual titles at Pittston, while Corey Hurd, Drayton Dekay, Jordan Brown, and Brendon Cooke brought home second-place medals.
Trenton Barrett and Aidin Varga both posted third-place finishes and Connor Garrison, and Ladonte Colter both placed fourth.
The Sayre Rec team, coached by Donnie Barrett, started the season with 60 wrestlers. Barrett took his most experienced competitors to PIttston.
“We wrestled very tough at Pittson,” said Barrett. “Everybody looked great, considering we have only had three organized practices before this competition.
“The boys have made a ton of improvements from last year and that’s what it's all about,” noted Barrett. “We have a lot of heart and great technique, which will take us a long way.
“I saw areas where we all can improve and little things to fix that will put us where we need to be down the road this year,” added Barrett. “I’m very excited to see what the rest of the year brings.”
