COLLEGE WRESTLING: ATHENS GRAD WINTERS FINISHES SIXTH AT NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2017-11-20)

ITHACA — Athens grad Kaidon Winters, a freshman on the RIT wrestling team, posted a 5-2 record, and finished sixth at the New York State Championships here Sunday at Cornell University.

Winters, wrestling at 157 pounds, opened the tournament with a pin of Jamestown CC’s Howie Nolan in 6:40.

Winters ran into top seed Sam Schneider of Ithaca College in the second round, and lost via fall in 37 seconds.

He bounced back with a 7-0 decision over  Ryan Sebesta of Niagara CC in his first consolation bracket match, then beat Corey Farrell of Brockport State 4-0.

Winters pinned Fredy Stroker of the Finger Lakes Wrestling Club in 4:12, and then beat Kieran Duggan of the Merchant Marine Academy in an 11-5 decision to advance to the fifth-place match.

He was forced to forfeit the fifth-place match due to reaching the six-match limit.

Winters improves to 15-4 on the season.

RIT returns to action when it hosts the RIT Invitational Dec. 2.
