YOUTH BASKETBALL (BOYS): ATHENS 6TH-GRADE TEAM SPLITS PAIR OF GAMES IN SLIM SYLVESTER LEAGUE PLAY (2017-12-04)

ATHENS The Athens 6th-grade boys travel basketball team split a pair of games over the weekend in Slim Sylvester League action, falling to Horseheads, then edging past Owego.

Horseheads 51, Athens 42
Athens let a 10-point halftime lead slip away in a 51-42 loss to Horseheads Friday night at Lynch Middle School gymnasium.

Athens led 28-18 at the half, but was outscored 33-14 after the intermission.

Evan Sickler led Athens with 19 points, while Korey Miller added nine, and Conner Mosher chipped in with seven.

Athens 49, Owego 45
Athens led by two at the half, and held on to win a tightly-contested 49-45 decision over Owego Sunday at the Owego Middle School gym.

Athens led 25-23 at the half, and outscored Owego 24-22 in the second half.

Sickler and Miller led Athens with 17 and 16 points, respectively, while Mosher added 11 points.

Athens , now 3-2, plays three games next weekend, including home games against Deposit Saturday at 1 p.m., and Corning Sunday at 1:45 both at the Lynch gym.
