NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley won a pair of close decisions, but Waverly pulled out a big win in the third game to salvage a 2-2 split here Tuesday afternoon in IAC boys bowling action at Cardinal Lanes.

The Cardinals opened with an 828-805 win, then pulled out an 849-847 decision in the second game. The Wolverines won the third game 865-710 for a 2,517 to 2,387 total-pinfall victory.

Nick Briggs led Waverly with a 675 series on games of 212, 197, and 266, while senior Chris Johnson had a 511, and 7th-grader Zach Vanderpool added a 475.

Senior Logan Bowman rolled a 426 for Waverly, while freshman Matt Mauersberg had a 400, and sophomore Kaleb Ennis tacked on a 343.

Kyle Pratt led Newark Valley with a 669, and Alex Umiker shot a 577.

Waverly, now 10-2, returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Union Springs.
