IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: NITTINGER, TOMASSO LEAD WAVERLY IN 62-34 ROUT OF NOTRE DAME (2017-12-05)

SOUTHPORT  Waverly raced out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter, and never looked back in a 62-34 win over Notre Dame here Tuesday night in IAC South Large School girls basketball action.

Senior Elle Nittinger scored eight points in the first quarter, and junior Alex Tomasso added six points and the Lady Wolverine defense limited Notre Dame to just two field goals en route to a 16-4 lead.

Alex Tomasso scored eight points, and Nittinger added six points to fuel a 20-7 second-quarter run that gave Waverly a 36-11 lead at the halftime intermission.

Nittinger canned a 3-pointer and scored five points in the third quarter, while Alex Tomasso and senior Paige Miller added four points apiece, and freshman Sidney Tomasso drained a 3-pointer as Waverly stretched its lead to 52-23 heading into the final eight minutes.

NIttinger and Alex Tomasso led Waverly with 19 and 18 points, respectively, while Sidney Tomasso had nine points, Miller added six points, and junior Wendi Hammond chipped in with five points.

Taylor VanDine led Notre Dame with eight points, and Courtney Crater addd six points.

Waverly, now 2-0, returns to action Friday at Candor.
