Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — Waverly pulled out an emotional 48-42 win over Notre Dame here Tuesday evening in IAC South Large School junior varsity boys basketball action.

In the wake of the death of one of the player’s mothers, the junior Wolverines won their first game of the season.

“I am beyond proud of the kids in how they responded to adversity with the passing of their teammate’s mom on Monday,” said Waverly coach Michael Croft.

Thomas Price led Waverly with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, and Peyton Bowen had nine points, eight steals, and four rebounds.

“Thomas (Price) played exceptionally well under the circumstances,” said Croft. “It was the best game of his young career in honor of his mother.

“Fitting it was him who sealed the win with two clutch free throws late in fourth quarter,” added Croft.

Caden Hollywood added nine points, four rebounds, and four steals in the win, while Nick VanHouten chipped in with eight points.

Joe Sheehan led Notre Dame with 10 points, while Adam Ward and Anthony Tota added nine points.

Waverly, now 1-2, hosts Candor Friday.
