WAVERLY — For the second night in a row, Waverly lost a pair of close decisions, then posted a big win in the third game to salvage a split with Union Springs here Wednesday afternoon in IAC Large School bowling action at the Valley Bowling Center.
Union Springs won the first game 1,035-1,003, then won the second game 1,109-1,071. The Wolverines bounced back in the third game with a 1,047-911 win for a total-pinfall victory of 3,121 to 3,055.
Senior Nick Briggs led Waverly with a 686 series on games of 248 245, and 195, while 7th-grader Zach Vanderpool shot a 663 on games of 225, 246, and 192, and senior Chris Johnson had a 632 on games of 205, 225, and 202.
Senior Logan Bowman shot a 576 series, including a 223, for the Wolverines, while sophomore Derrick Canfield added a 563, including a 235, and freshman Matt Mauersberg tacked on a 471.
Union Spring’s Bryce Cecchini rolled a match-high 691 on games of 244, 236, and 211, and Matt Fritz shot a 646 on games of 237, 232, and 177.
Waverly, now 12-4, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Groton.
