IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY SCORES 30 STRAIGHT POINTS IN 53-11 ROUT OF DRYDEN (2018-01-05)
Valley Sports Report WAVERLY — Waverly scored 30 unanswered points in a run that stretched more than 18 1/2 minutes in a 53-11 rout of Dryden here Wednesday evening in IAC junior varsity girls basketball action.
With the score tied at 2-2, Gianna Picco scored with 4:44 remaining in the first quarter to give Waverly the lead for good.
Morgan Adams scored four points in a 12-0 spurt to close the quarter that gave the junior Wolverines a 14-2 lead.
Lourden Benjamin scored four points in the second quarter that stretched the run to 24-0, and extended the Waverly lead to 26-2 at the half.
Sadie VanAllen, Adams, and Alyssa Sindoni each scored to open the third quarter, and push the lead to 32-2 before Dryden scored with 3:26 remaining — its first bucket since 5:53 of the first quarter.
Adams led a balanced Waverly attack with 12 points, while Megan Ward and Sindoni scored eight points, and Olivia Nittinger and Van Allen added six points apiece.
Gianna Picco scored five points in the win, and Benjamin chipped in with four points.
Waverly returns to action Tuesday when it hosts S-VE.
