THE VALLEY — Basketball takes center stage with three big match-ups featuring teams with winning records, highlighted by the Athens boys hosting NTL Large School Division-leading Wellsboro.
The unbeaten Waverly girls host S-VE, and the Tioga boys host Notre Dame, while the S-VE boys host Waverly, and the Notre Dame girls host Tioga.
The Sayre boys are also at home against Wyalusing.
Wellsboro (9-1) at Athens (7-3), 6 p.m. JV start: The Wildcats are coming off an 84-28 rout of Williamson Thursday, while the Green Hornets rolled over Towanda 89-27.
Last year, Wellsboro won at home 61-49 in their first meeting, then rallied at Athens later in the season for a 58-55 win in overtime.
Waverly (7-3) at S-VE (3-5), 6 p.m. JV start: The Wolverines are coming off a 56-41 win over Dryden Tuesday, while the Panthers dropped a 46-41 decision to Union Springs.
Last year, Waverly held off S-VE in a 56-42 win.
Wyalusing (9-2) at Sayre (3-7), 6 p.m. JV start: The Redskins are coming off a 58-39 loss to Elk Lake Saturday, while the Rams drubbed Cowanesque Valley 64-32.
Last year, Sayre beat Wyalusing 38-35 in the consolation game of the Sayre Tip-Off Classic. Three days later, the Rams topped the Redskins 57-41 at Wyalusing.
Notre Dame (6-3) at Tioga (7-3), 6 p.m. JV start: The Tigers are coming off a 53-34 win over NEB Saturday, while the Crusaders routed Trumansburg 75-46 Tuesday.
Last year, Notre Dame rolled to a 72-40 win over Tioga.
S-VE (6-3) at Waverly (9-0), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Lady Wolverines are coming off a 59-20 win over Dryden Wednesday, while the Lady Panthers topped Union Springs 51-28.
Last year, Waverly rolled to a 77-35 rout of S-VE.
Tioga (2-8) at Notre Dame (6-4), 6 p.m. (Varsity only): The Lady Tigers are coming off a 62-32 loss to Moravia Tuesday, while the Lady Crusaders rolled over Trumansburg 59-18.
Last year, Notre Dame topped Tioga 38-32.
Athens at Wyalusing (8-3), 7 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 38-35 loss to Canton, while the Rams are coming off a 2-2 performance at the Zephyr Duals on Saturday.
Wyalusing has eight grappler already in double figures in wins, led by unbeaten Creighton Edsell (15-0).
Groton (13-19) at Tioga (31-1), 3:30 p.m. @ Valley Bowling Center: The Tigers are coming off a sweep of Waverly, and lead the Small School standings by 18 games in the loss column over Groton, and 20 games over Edison.
Tioga averages 979 pins per game, while Groton averages 710 pins.
Waverly (28-8) at Lansing (20-16), 3:30 p.m. @ Helen Newman Lanes: The Wolverines trail Watkins Glen by two games in the Large School standings, while Union Springs is 3 games back, and Lansing is in fifth place — 10 games off the pace.
Waverly averages 1,009 pins per game, while Lansing average 785 pins.
Groton (15-17) at Tioga (23-9), 3:30 p.m. @ Valley Bowling Center: The Lady Tigers have the fewest losses in the Small School Division, leading Candor by five in the loss coming, but trailing them by seven in the win column.
Tioga averages 694 pins per game, while Groton averages 631 pins per game.
Waverly (34-2) at Lansing (9-27), 3:30 p.m. @ Helen Newman Lanes: The Lady Wolverines lead the Large School Division by nine games over Watkins Glen. Lansing is in fifth place — 25 games off the pace.
Waverly averages 816 pins per game, while Lansing averages 604 pins.
