SPENCER  Waverly fended off a second-half rally, and made its free throws down the stretch to post a 61-50 win over S-VE here Tuesday night in IAC South boys basketball action.

Senior Jason Jequinto scored seven points in each of the first two quarter, including a 3-pointer in each stanza, to help Waverly to a 30-23 halftime lead.

Junior Nathan Mack scored eight points in the first half for S-VE, and senior Zach Sherwood added six.

Sophomore Noah Mach scored all five of his points in the third quarter to spark an S-VE rally that trimmed the deficit to 42-40 heading into the final eight minutes.

Nathan Mack scored eight points in the fourth quarter for the Panthers, but four different Wolverines Jequinto, junior Gavin Judson, and seniors EIthan McEnulty and Matt VanHouten scored four points apiece to secure the win.

The Wolverines also made 9 of 12 free-throw attempts in the final eight minutes, including a 4-for-4 performance by Judson.

Jequinto led the Wolverines with 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, while Judson had 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists, VanHouten scored 10 points, hauled down 10 rebounds, and blocked three shots, sophomore Scotty Woodring, who had five boards, three steals, and a blocked shot, and McEnulty added six points apiece, and junior Dylan Ward chipped in with five points and four boards.

Nathan Mack led S-VE with 18 points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots, while junior Ben VanGalder scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Sherwood added eight points and six rebounds

Noah Mack contributed five points, three rebounds, three steals, three assists, and one blocked shot for the Panthers, and freshman James Sutherlin added four points and four rebounds.

Waverly, now 8-3, returns to action Friday when it hosts Newfield, while S-VE, now 3-6, travels to Newark Valley.
