SPENCER — Waverly used a big second quarter to take control on its way to a 59-38 win over S-VE here Tuesday evening in IAC South junior varsity boys basketball action.
Daimon Allen scored seven points in the first quarter, and Garrett Cooke added four points to help S-VE to a 14-12 lead.
In the second quarter, Caden Hollywood pumped in 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Kobe Decker added four points, and Thomas Price canned his second trey of the game in a 23-11 blitz that gave the junior Wolverines a 35-25 halftime lead.
Jalen McCarty scored four points in the third quarter for Waverly, and Price drained another 3-pointer as Waverly extended its lead to 46-32 entering the final eight minutes.
Hollywood, who had 19 points in the first half, led Waverly with 22 points, including four 3-pointers, and five rebounds, while Price had 14 points, including four 3-pointers, Decker had six points and five rebounds, Dylan Streeter added five points, McCarty chipped in with four points, and Peyton Bowen contributed four points, four steals, and three rebounds.
Matt Merrick led S-VE with 13 points, while Allen and Matt Byrne, who knocked down a trio of 3-pointers, scored nine points apiece, and Cooke added four.
Waverly returns to action Friday when it hosts Newfield, while S-VE travels to Newark Valley.
