|IAC BOYS BOWLING: WAVERLY TAKES HUGE STEP TOWARD ANOTHER DIVISION TITLE WITH SPLIT AT UNION SPRINGS (2018-01-29)

AUBURN, N.Y. Waverly took a huge step toward winning its eighth consecutive IAC Large School Division title with a 2-2 split against Union Springs here Monday afternoon in boys bowling action at Starlite Lanes.
With the split, Waverly retains a 1-game lead in the loss column over Union Springs, and can clinch the division title Tuesday with a sweep of O-M at Harborside Lanes in Watkins Glen.
The Wolverines won a pair of close decisions by scores of 882-843 and 966-932 to open the match, but the Wolves kept their title hopes alive with a 1,043-889 win in the third game, and a total-pinfall victory of 2,818 to 2,737.
Seventh-grader Zach Vanderpool paced Waverly with a 602 series on games of 152, 216, and 234, while sophomore Derrick Canfield shot a 596 on games of 212, 214, and 170, and senior Nick Briggs had a 544.
Senior Logan Bowman shot a 491 for the Wolverines, while senior Chris Johnson added a 472, and freshman Matt Mauersberg tacked on a 444.
Matt Fritz rolled a match-high 725 series for the Wolves on games of 226, 255, and 244, while Bryce Cecchini, and Mitch Hamel each shot 526 series.
