SAYRE — Four in a row.
Sayre left little doubt here Tuesday night with a 55-7 romp over North Penn-Liberty that clinched its fourth consecutive NTL Small School girls basketball title.
“I could not be happier for this group,” said Sayre coach Eileen Sparduti. “They have worked, they have struggled, and they have soared.
“They have forged their own identity as champions again,” added Sparduti. “This is their now.”
Senior Blair Wampole and junior Camry Lane scored four points apiece, and the Lady Redskin defense smothered NPL in a 12-0 first-quarter run.
It was more of the same in the second quarter as sophomore Emily Sutryk canned a pair of 3-pointers to fuel a 15-3 run that gave Sayre a 27-3 lead at the halftime break.
“We were able to turn defense into offense and capitalized on their offensive miscues,” said Sparduti.
Wampole, Lane, and junior Stephanie Klovekorn scored four points apiece in a 17-2 third-quarter blitz that extended the lead to 44-5 entering the final eight minutes.
Lane led Sayre with 14 points and six steals, while Wampole scored 13 points, hauled down 16 rebounds, and blocked four shots, and Klovekorn had nine points, three rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots.
Sutryk added eight points and four steals in the win, while senior Britni Benjamin chipped in with four points, three boards, and one blocked shot, freshman Gabbi Randall grabbed four boards, and senior Emily Moore dished out three assists.
Sayre, now 16-5, closes out the regular season Thursday when it hosts Troy.
