|IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE DROPS LEAGUE FINALE AT NOTRE DAME, 53-33 (2018-02-07)

SOUTHPORT, N.Y. After a slow start, Notre Dame used a strong second quarter to take control on its way to a 53-33 win over S-VE here Tuesday night in IAC girls basketball action.
Sophomore Paige Grube knocked down a 3-pointer, and scored five points, and senior Mackenzie Grube added four points to help S-VE to an 11-9 lead after the first eight minutes.
Courtney Crater scored seven points in the second quarter for Notre Dame, and 6-3 Mary Foster added six points to fuel a 19-9 run that gave the Crusaders a 28-20 halftime lead.
Sophomore Tara Perkins scored eight of S-VEs nine points in the second quarter to keep them in the game.
Kahlia Rivera scored four points, and Notre Dame made 6 of 10 free throws in the third quarter, and was able to extend its lead to 38-27 entering the final eight minutes.
The Lady Crusaders made 9 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Perkins led S-VE with 10 points, while Mackenzie Grube added eight points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals, Paige Grube had seven points, and three rebounds, senior Jamie Sayre grabbed four boards, and senior Daysha Rorick had four steals.
Crater led three Notre Dame scorers in double-figures with 16 points, while Foster added 12 points, and Maddie Watts chipped in with 11, including a pair of 3-pointers.
S-VE, now 11-7, will host Chenango Valley Monday in a final tune-up before the upcoming Section IV, Class C playoffs.
