NTL JUNIOR HIGH SWIMMING: ATHENS GIRLS, BOYS DOMINATE IN WININING LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS (5 PHOTOS) (2018-02-07)

SAYRE — The Athens girls and boys both dominated en route to winning team titles at the NTL junior high championships.

Taegan Williams, and Raven McCarthy-Gardner each won four events, and Brooke Kopatz was a triple-winner to lead the junior Lady Wildcats, while Chris DeForest, and Kaden Gorsline were four-time winners for the boys, and Joe Blood, and Travis Webster were triple-winners.

Williams and Kopatz each set new meet records.

GIRLS
Athens won the team title with 194 points, while Towanda was second with 98, and Sayre was third with 80 points.

Williams won the 100-yard freestyle in a new meet record-time of 1:00.72 seconds, and Sayre’s Ellie Boyle was second in 1:17.5.

Williams also won the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 31.33 seconds, while Sayre’s Gianna Quattrini was second in 44.21 seconds.

McCarty-Gardner won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 31.27 seconds, while Boyle was second in 33.49 seconds, and Quattrini was third in 34.7 seconds. Athens’ Vegas Alfred, Maggie Miller, and Allison Thoman finished fourth through sixth, respectively.

McCarty-Gardner won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 38.73 seconds, and Athens’ Casey Reid finished third in 46.21 seconds.

Kopatz won the 50-yard breaststroke in a meet record-setting time of 35.54 seconds, and Thoman was third in 45.19 seconds. Kopatz also won the 100-yard IM in a time of 1:15.51.

The Athens foursome of Miller, Kopatz, Williams, and McCarty-Gardner teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:22.09.

Williams and McCarty-Gardner also teamed with Kaylee Grazul and Thoman to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 2:16.67.

Athens’ Aleisha Wight won the mixed 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:487.93, and Athens’ Isabelle Dahl was second in 1:49.59.

Reid won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:07.76, and Athens’ Julianna Gillie was second in 2:34.28.

BOYS
Athens won the boys title with 116 points, while Towanda was second with 40 points, and Sayre was third with 27 points.

DeForest won the 100-yard IM in a time of 1:23.18, and Webster finished second in 1:28.52.

DeForest also won the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 35.46 seconds, and Sayre’s Liam Barry was second in 55.46 seconds.

Gorsline won the 50-yard freestyle in 30.5 seconds, while Blood was third in 52.05 seconds, and Sayre’s Dominic Mills placed fourth. Gorsline also won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:09.49.

The Athens foursome of Blood, Gorsline, Webster, and DeForest teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay. The same foursome won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 2:17.87.

Blood won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 43.54 seconds, and Mills was third in 56.18 seconds.

Webster won the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 45.81 seconds.
