THE VALLEY — Day 1 of the Section IV, Division 2 wrestling championships take center stage this evening, while the Waverly and Tioga girls bowling teams compete for a Section IV class championship.
Tioga, SVEC, Waverly at Section IV, Division 2 Championships, 5:15 p.m. @ Watkins Glen H.S.: The last stop before the New York State Division 2 Championships begins this evening at the Watkins Glen High School Field House.
Tioga will have 15 wrestlers in action, including the only Valley top seed — sophomore Brady Worthing at 120 pounds, while SVEC has 12 grapplers competing, and Waverly has seven.

Candor (4-14) at Waverly (14-4), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Wolverines are coming off a 79-53 Large School Division-clinching win over O-M Thursday night, while the Indians dropped a 69-59 decision at Thomas A. Edison Tuesday.
Last year, Waverly cruised to a 76-39 win at Candor.
Waverly will face Whitney Point Feb. 16 in the overall IAC Large School championship game at Tompkins-Cortland Community College at 8 p.m.
Waverly, Tioga at Section IV Class Championships, 3 p.m. @ Midway Lanes, Vestal: Senior Cassy Bowman leads the Lady Wolverines into the Class B Championships, while junior Taylor Robertson, and senior Emily Birney lead the Lady Tigers into the Class C Championships.
Any potential local drama today was relieved Thursday when Small School champion Candor withdrew from next weekend’s Section IV State Qualifier, which will send the Tioga team to the event.
The top 30 individuals today will advance to the State Qualifier.
