NTL SWIMMING: SAYRE'S McCLELLAND, ATHENS' JARVIS LEAD VALLEY EFFORTS AT COACHES INVITE (2018-02-12)

WILLIAMSPORT — Sayre senior Caleb McClelland was a double-winner here Saturday at the Coaches Swimming & Diving Invitational, while Athens freshman Amy Jarvis turned in a pair of third-place finishes.

BOYS
The Sayre boys finished sixth in the 17-team field with 132 points, and Athens was 10th with 96. Williamsport claimed the team title with 348 points, and Central Columbia was second with 298.

Caleb McClelland won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:47.43. He also won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:01.45

Caleb McClelland teamed with juniors Josh McClelland, and Matt Beers, and senior Joey Stermer to finish third in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:39.66. The same foursome finished sixth in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:52.86.

Josh McClelland finished seventh in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:18.92, and Athens senior Shawn Shaw was eighth in 2:19.33. Josh McClelland also finished 10th in the 100-yard backstroke.

The Athens quartet of senior Evan Menard, junior Robert Kisner, freshman Mason Henderson, and senior Andrew Juhola finished sixth in the 400-yard freestyle in a time of 4:13.67.

Stermer finished ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Athens senior Arvid Johnson was 10th, and Sayre senior Sam VanDermark was 13th.

Shaw finished 10th in the 100-yard freestyle, and Athens junior Trent Nevill was 16th.

Nevill finished 12th in the 50-yard freestyle, while Athens senior Rohnin Bishop was 14th, and Beers was 15th.

GIRLS
Athens finished seventh in the team standings with 161 points, and Sayre was eighth with 134 points. Mifflinburg won the team title with 299 points, edging runner-up Jersey Shore, which tallied 295 points.

Jarvis finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:59.97, while Sayre sophomore Jillian Shay was sixth in 6:09.54. Sayre sophomore Kayla Hughey was 13th, and Athens freshman Madison Derrig was 14th. Jarvis also finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:12.0

Jarvis teamed with seniors Abby Thoman, Kendra Gorsline, and Selkie Bishop to finish third in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:52.13, and Sayre’s foursome of Claire Shaffer, Hughey, Shay, and junior Kayla Kittle placed sixth in 1:55.21.

Kittle finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.26 seconds, and Thoman was eighth in 28.06 seconds. Bishop finished 12th.

Kittle also placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:09.57, while Gorsline was 11th.

The Sayre foursome of Shaffer, Hughey, Emily Lattimer, and Jasmine Fairlie finished sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:42.33.

The Athens foursome of Gorsline, freshman Allyson Rockwell, Bishop, and sophomore Lauren Nevill finished seventh in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:11.59.

Shay finished eighth in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:40.82, while Nevill was ninth, Athens sophomore Sierra Ardrey was 11th, and Athens sophomore Christina Bard was 16th.

Lattimer finished 11th in the 100-yard butterfly, while Bishop was 12th in the 100-yard freestyle.

Sayre and Athens return to action Tuesday at the NTL Championsihps at Sayre.
