COLLEGE WRESTLING: ATHENS GRAD WINTERS SETS NEW MARK FOR PINS IN A SEASON AT RIT (2018-02-14)

Valley Sports Report
ROCHESTER — Athens grad Kaidon Winters, a freshman on the RIT wrestling team, broke the single-season record for pins in a season Saturday as the Tigers wrapped up the dual portions of their season by splitting a pair of decisions.

Winters pinned Penn Tech’s Daniel Bergeron in 1:30 at 157 pounds in RIT’s 48-6 win over Penn College in his first match of the day.

Later in the day, Winters pinned Juan Vernal in 2:21 in RIT’s 32-21 loss to Southern Maine.

Winters is 36-7 on the season, including 16 dual wins, which ranks third all-time in one season at RIT.

Winters has 20 pins this season, breaking the single-season record of 19, set by three-time NCAA National Champion Matt Hamill in 1997-98.

RIT returns to action at the NCAA Mideast Regionals, hosted by Ithaca College, on Feb. 24-25.
