THE VALLEY  Four Athens wrestlers will begin the final step in their quest for a trip to States this evening, while Waverly sophomore Mike Atanasoff makes his first appearance at the New York State Swimming & Diving Championships.

WRESTLING
PIAA Northeast Regional Championships, 6 p.m. @ Williamsport H.S.:
Seniors A.J. Burkhart, Chris Horton, and Nate Bradley, and junior David Galasso open action at the Northeast Regionals tonight in the quarterfinals.

Burkhart (26-5) is the top seed at 126 pounds, while Horton (132 pounds) and Bradley (160) are fifth seeds, and Galasso (170) is a sixth seed.

BOYS SWIMMING

New York State Championships, 9:30 a.m. @ Nassau County Aquatic Center:
Waverly sophomore Mike Atanasoff will swim in the preliminaries of the 50- and 100-yard freestyle sprints this morning.

Atanasoff needs to finish in the top 16 to advance to the finals on Saturday.

Atanasoff is the 47th seed in the 100-yard freestyle with a seed time of 48.65 seconds.

Junior Andy Lee of Great Neck South is the top seed in the 100-yard freestyle with a seed time of 45.26 seconds. Chaminade senior Christian Sztolcman also has a seed time of 45.26 seconds. The 16th seed time is 47.67 seconds.

Atanasoff is the 56th seed in the 50-yard freestyle with a seed time of 22.16 seconds.

Lee is also the top seed with a seed time of 20.38 seconds, and South Lynbrook senior Tim Marski is the second seed at 20.4 seconds. The 16th seed time is 2149 seconds.
