THE VALLEY — There is home diamond action at Athens and Waverly this afternoon, while the Tioga and Waverly boys square off on the links at Shepard Hills.

Wellsboro (2-1 overall, 2-1 NTL) at Athens (1-1 1-1), 4:30 p.m.:
The Wildcats are coming off an 11-5 loss at Towanda Thursday, while the Hornets blanked NP-Mansfield, 17-0.

Last year, Athens won 10-0 at Wellsboro in early April, then edged the Hornets 3-1 at home in early May.

Sayre (2-0, 1-0) at Williamson (1-2, 0-2), 4:30 p.m.: The Redskins have been off since a 15-0 win over Blue Ridge on March 31, while the Warriors dropped a 14-2 decision to NEB Monday.

Last year, Sayre blanked the Warriors 15-0 at home in early April, then rolled to a 20-3 win at Williamson in early May.

Tioga (2-0 overall, 0-0 IAC) at Edison (3-1, 0-0), 4:45 p.m.: The Tigers are coming off a 10-1 win at Newark Valley Monday, while the Spartans blanked Candor 20-0.

Last year, Tioga rolled to a 15-1 win over Edison.

Newfield (0-1, 0-0) at Waverly (2-0, 0-0), 4:30 p.m.: The Wolverines are coming off a 14-0 win over Candor Tuesday afternoon, while the Trojans dropped an 8-7 decision to Notre Dame Thursday in its season opener.

Last year, Waverly won 11-1 at Newfield.

S-VE (1-2, 0-0) at Newark Valley (0-1, 0-1), 4:30 p.m.:
The Panthers are coming off a walk-off 3-2 win over MOravia Tuesday, while the Cardinals dropped a 10-1 decision to Tioga.

Wellsboro (2-1 overall, 2-1 NTL) at Athens (0-1, 0-1), 4:30 p.m.:
The Lady Wildcats dropped a 4-2 decision at Towanda in their season opener Thursday, while the Hornets dropped a 5-4 decision to NP-Liberty Monday.

Last year, Athens lost 11-3 at Wellsboro in early April, then dropped a 12-1 decision at home in early May.

Sayre (0-2, 0-1) at Williamson (0-2, 0-2), 4:30 p.m.
: The Lady Redskins dropped a 9-4 decision at Towanda Monday, while Williamson lost 14-2 at NEB.

Last year, Sayre dropped a 10-2 decision to Williamson at home in early April, then lost 10-0 at Williamson in early May.

Tioga (3-0) at Edison, 4:45 p.m.: The Lady Tigers are coming off a 26-0 win over Watkins Glen, and travel to face arch-rival Edison.

Last year, Edison blanked Tioga, 11-0.

Newfield at Waverly (2-0), 4:30 p.m.: The Lady Wolverines are coming off an 8-0 win over O-M, and will host another Small School foe this afternoon.

Last year, Waverly blanked Newfield 7-0.

S-VE at Newark Valley, 4:30 p.m.: The Lady Panthers dropped a 17-2 decision to powerhouse Notre Dame, while the Lady Cardinals lost 9-1 at home to Tioga.

Tioga at Waverly, 3:30 p.m. @ Shepard Hills:
The 2018 boys golf season opens with a veteran Tioga team taking on a very young Waverly team.

The Tigers are led by two-time state qualifier sophomore Sam Taylor, junior A.J. Middendorf, and senior Jake Robertson, while the Wolverines roster is comprised of seven under classmen — two freshmen, and five 8th-graders.

Waverly (2-1) at O-M (2-1), 4:30 p.m.:
The Wolverines are coming off a 7-0 win over Union Springs Tuesday, while the Indians edged Newark Valley, 4-3.

The first singles match could be a good one with Waverly’s Hunter Heath taking on O-M’s Curtis Harris.
