SAYRE — Junior James Esposito scattered five hits in a 10-0 five-inning win over Northeast Bradford here Friday afternoon in NTL Small School baseball action at Ralph Hendershot Field at Riverfront Park.
Esposito struck out four and walked one in a five-inning complete-game effort. He threw just 52 pitches.
The Redskins’ bats were hot from the start with senior Sam Wheeler stroking a single to lead-off the bottom of the first inning, and sophomore Quinn Hanafin following with an RBI double to the right-center field gap to make it 1-0.
Sayre added three more runs on three more hits in the rally, including an RBI single by senior Jordan Rockwell to take a 3-0 lead.
The Panthers threatened in the top of the second, but Rockwell gunned down a runner at the plate for the third out.
After leaving the bases loaded in the second inning, the Redskins blew the game open with six runs in the third inning take a 9-0 lead. The big hit in the inning was a three-RBI double by senior Nate Sweet.
Senior Connor Hanafin’s RBI fielder’s choice in the home half of the fifth plated Sayre’s 10th run to invoke the “mercy” rule.
Wheeler had three hits, including a double, and scored three times to lead Sayre’s 11-hit attack, while Sweet rapped a pair of doubles, scored one run, and had three RBI and Rockwell doubled and singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run.
Connor Hanafin singled, scored twice, and drove in two runs for the Redskins, while Quinn Hanafin doubled, scored a run, and knocked in a run, and sophomore Camden Wheeler and Esposito each singled, scored one run, and drove in one run.
