ENDICOTT — Union-Endicott scored seven runs in the home half of the first inning and cruised to an 11-3 win over Waverly here Saturday in non-league baseball action at Ty Cobb Stadium.

Junior Colby Sindoni stroked a lead-off single in the top of the first inning for the Wolverines. With two outs, senior Eithan McEnulty hit a ball into short right field that was misplayed, but the Tigers recovered to cut down Sindoni at the plate.

Anthony Vanfossen, who clubbed a three-run shot, and Jake Thomas hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to help the Tigers off to a 7-0 start.

After U-E tacked on a run in the bottom of the third inning, the Wolverines got on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Sophomore Elijah Kraft was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, then senior Jason Morales walked, and junior Bradey Roney singled to load the bases.

With one out. senior Chandler Whitmarsh hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate the first Waverly run. Three pitches later, Morales scampered home on a passed ball.

The Wolverines loaded the bases again with one out in the sixth inning on three walks, but only managed one run on an RBI groundout off the bat of Morales.

Shane Hammond earned the win for the Tigers, allowing three runs — two earned — on two hits, while striking out nine and walking three. A pair of U-E relievers each pitched a hitless inning.

Senior Tyler Croft was tagged with the loss. He re-grouped after the first inning, allowing nine runs — five earned — on 10 hits, while striking out six and walking three in five innings.

Sindoni, and Roney each singled to account for Waverly’s two hits.

Waverly, now 3-2, returns to action Monday when it hosts O-M / WG.
