STATE COLLEGE — Tioga grad Parker Hendershot, a freshman on the Penn State baseball team, hit his first career home run to lift the Nittany Lions to a 6-5 win over Xavier here Thursday night in NCAA baseball action.
Hendershot, who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and four RBI in the win, slammed a 1-1 pitch over the left-field fence in the bottom of the eighth to give Penn State a 6-5 lead.
In his second at-bat of the game, Hendershot lined a two-out, two-RBI double to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
In the sixth inning, Hendershot drove in a run with a fielder’s choice to trim the deficit to 5-4, and scored the game-tying run later in the inning.
On the season, Hendershot is hitting .307 (27 hits in 88 at-bats) with five doubles, one home run, 21 RBI, and 12 runs scored. He has walked 14 times, has a .404 on-base percentage, and is 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts.
Penn State, now 12-30, hosts Xavier in a doubleheader Friday.
