SAYRE — David Hall Jr.’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning capped a four-run rally that lifted Joe’s Marine to an 8-7 win over Williams Ford here Wednesday night in Athens / Sayre Little League Majors Division baseball action.
Joe’s Marine took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Williams Ford rallied for a 5-3 lead after 3 1/2 innings.
Williams Ford led 7-4 entering the bottom of the sixth, but Joe’s Marine scored runs on RBI singles by Tanner Green and Maison Apgar, sandwiched around an RBI groundout off the bat of Thomas Morley to tie the game, and set the stage for Hall Jr.’s game-winner.
Maison Apgar singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Hall Jr. singled twice and knocked in a run to lead Joe’s Marine’s nine-hit attack, while Johnathyn Apgar doubled, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Tanner Green singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run.
Gabe Horton singled and scored two runs in the win, while Karter Green singled and scored a run, and Andrew Vanderpool added a single.
Horton earned the win for Joe’s Marine, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out three and walking none in two innings of work. Vanderpool started and allowed five runs — none earned — on four hits, while striking out four and walking two in four innings on the mound.
Jase Babcock stroked three singles, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Dylan Saxon singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs to pace Williams Ford at the plate, while Garret Thetga singled, and scored two runs, Kelley Reid singled, scored a run, and drove in a run, Josh Martin added a single, and Matthias Welles scored a pair of runs.
Welles started on the mound for Williams Ford, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out six and walking three in three innings. Martin relieved and allowed one run on two hits, while striking out three and walking two in two innings.
