ROME, Pa. — Northeast Bradford scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning, and cruised to a 13-2 win over Sayre here Friday afternoon in NTL Small School Division softball action.
The Lady Redskins scored first in the top of the second when senior Blair Wampole led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a passed ball.
McKenzie Haight led off the bottom of the second inning with a double, and Mckenna Hurley followed with a two-run home run to left field to give the Lady Panthers a 2-1 lead. Jaycee Brown and Morgan Post re-ignited the rally with back-to-back doubles to make it 3-1.
Later in the inning, Jennah Hansen added an RBI single, and Taya Howell capped the scoring with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 7-1.
Sayre scored again in the top of third inning when sophomore Emily Sutryk led off with a single, and scored with two outs to trim the deficit to 7-2, but NEB ace Lindsay Moore shut down the Lady Redskins over the final three innings.
Post led off the NEB fifth inning with a solo home run to center field to push the lead to 10-2. With one out, Moore tripled to right field, and scored on an errant throw back to the infield.
Hansen then doubled, and Welch ended the game with a two-run home run to center field to make it 13-2 and invoke the 10-run “mercy” rule.
Sutryk was 2-for-2 with a run scored to lead Sayre at the plate, while Wampole doubled, and scored a run, and sophomore Jillian Shay added a single.
The Lady Panthers pounded out 14 hits, including four doubles, one triple, and four home runs.
Hansen had three hits, including a double, three runs scored, and one RBI to lead NEB at the plate.
Moore earned the win for the Lady Panthers. She allowed two runs — one earned — on four hits, and struck out four.
Sayre, now 2-13, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Cowanesque Valley.
