ATHENS LITTLE LEAGUE (MINORS): JAY'S CARPET BOUNCES BACK FROM LOSSES TO WILLIAMS NISSAN, ATHENS ANIMAL HOSPITAL WITH BIG WIN OVER FIREMEN (2018-06-03)

ATHENS — Jay’s Carpet One bounced back after dropping decisions to Williams Nissan and Athens Animal Hospital earlier in the week with a 20-10 win over the Firemen here Sunday afternoon in Athens Little League Minors Division baseball action.

Jay’s Carpet One 20, Firemen 10
Jay’s Carpet scored five runs in all four of its at-bats en route to a 20-10 win over the Firemen Sunday afternoon.

Jay’s Carpet led 10-7 after two inning, then stretched its lead to 15-7 after three innings.

James Friend homered and singled, scored three runs, and had five RBI, and Wilson Kinsman stroked three singles, scored one run, and had two RBI to pace Jay’s at the plate, and Duncan Thetga singled, scored three runs, and had three RBI.

Austyn Stedge singled, scored two runs, and had three RBI in the win, while Lucas Schultz singled, scored one run, and drove in a run, Seth Krissler singled and drove in a run, and Adam Kemp, Brodie Walker, and Hayden Bartlow each scored three runs.

Keaton Sinsabaugh singled twice, scored three runs, and drove in a run to pace the Firemen’s four-hit attack, while Collin Dawson doubled, scored three runs, and knocked in a run, Tyler Goodenow singled and drove in a run, Ely Newman scored one run, and had two RBI, and Trent Williams crossed the plate twice.

Athens Animal Hospital 7, Jay’s Carpet One 5
Athens Animal Hospital scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a tie on its way to a 7-5 win over Jay Carpet One Saturday to avenge a 5-4 loss eight days before.

AAH scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Jay’s rallied to tie the game at 3-3 after two innings.

After both teams scored a run in the third inning, AAH took a 7-4 lead in the top of the fifth. Jay’s scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and had the bases loaded with two outs, but could not score again.

Eli Hicks homered and tripled, scored two runs, and had three RBI to pace AAH’s nine-hit attack, while Xavier Watson tripled and singled, scored one run, and had three RBI, Peter Bertsch singled twice and scored two runs, Rodney Chapman added a pair of singles, and Sam Cheresnowsky singled and scored a run.

Kamdyn Wheeler started for AAH, allowing four runs — two earned — on three hits, while striking out four and walking one.

Jacob Saxon earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief, striking out two and walking two, and Bertsch allowed one run on three walks with three walks in 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief. Watson struck out one and walked one in one-third of an inning to record the save.

James Friend doubled and had two RBI, while Adam Kemp and Seth Krissler each singled and scored a run to account for Jay’s Carpet’s three hits.

Duncan Thetga started for Jay’s, allowing four runs — one earned — on four hits, while striking out three and walking one in three innings of work. Friend allowed three runs on five hits in three innings of relief. He struck out three and waked three.

Williams Nissan 14, Jay’s Carpet One 7
Williams Nissan scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to blow open a close game on its way to a 14-7 win over Jay’s Carpet One Thursday evening.

Williams Nissan scored two runs in the top of the first inning, and Jay’s answered with two in the home half. Williams Nissan scored five runs in the top of the second inning, and Jay’s countered with four in the bottom of the inning to close the gap t 7-6.

After both teams scored a run in the third inning, Williams Nissan scored five runs in the fourth, and tacked on an insurance run in the fifth to provide the final margin.

Alex Thompson singled twice, scored three runs, and had two RBI, and Nicholas Robbins singled twice and drove in two runs to pace Williams Nissan at the plate, while Mackenzie Cole singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, Eli Vogell singled and drove in a run, and Dalton Hall singled and scored a run.

Adam Kemp singled twice, scored one run, and drove in a run, and Zach Fisher doubled and singled, and scored one run to lead Jay Carpet at the plate, while Lucas Schultz singled, scored one run, and had two RBI, Austyn Stedge singled, scored one uno, and drove in a run, Seth Krissler singled and drove in two runs, and Brodie Walker scored a pair of runs.
