|NEW YORK STATE BOYS GOLF: TIOGA'S TAYLOR STRUGGLES IN DAY 1 OF STATE TOURNAMENT (2018-06-03)

ITHACA — Tioga sophomore Sam Taylor, making his third appearance at States, struggled mightily in Day 1 of the New York State boys golf championships here Sunday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course here at Cornell University.
Taylor, who shot rounds of 79 and 84 at the State Qualifier at the Robert Trent Jones course two weeks ago, shot a 25-over par round of 96 Sunday.
Taylor, who started on the 10th hole, shot a 47 on the back nine, and had just one par.
On his second nine, he played holes four through eight at 1-under par with a birdie on the 358-yard, par-4 6th hole, but ended his day with a 12 on the par-4 9th hole. He shot a 49 on the front nine.
Croton’s Matt Ferrari is the clubhouse leader after Day 1 with a 1-under par round of 70 on the 6,854-yard, par-71 Jones Course.
Orchard Park sophomore Aidan Shaw, and Oneonta junior Evan Sitts are tied for second after shooting matching rounds of 73.
Section I leads the team standings at 44-over par, while Section V is second at plus-48, and Section IV and VI are tied for third at plus-55.
Taylor will tee off at 7:46 a.m. Sunday on the 10th hole.
