WAVERLY LITTLE LEAGUE (MAJORS): CUBS TOP PHILLIES, 5-1, TO ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME (2018-06-08)

WAVERLY  Jake VanHouten shined on the mound and at the plate to lift the PS Bank / C&N Bank Cubs to a 5-1 win over the Just in Time Roofing / SAL SQB #283 Phillies here Thursday in the semifinals of the Waverly Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.

VanHouten allowed one run on five hits, while striking out 13 and walking two in a complete-game six-inning effort to earn the win.

VanHouten also had three hits, including a double, and scored one run to pace the Cubs at the plate, while Mark Emanuel doubled and singled, and scored a run, and Ryan Bostwick and Tristan Campbell each stroked a pair of singles

Keaton Anderson singled and scored a run in the win, and Roger Webster and Tyler Chapman each scored a run.

Carter George singled and scored a run to pace the Phillies at the plate, while Jacob Benjamin doubled, and Charlie Larrabee, Bryce Laforest and Nehemiah Anthony each singled.

The Cubs will square off with the Giants in the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m.
