NTL BASEBALL: SAYRE'S ROCKWELL, ATHENS' RUDE GARNER TOP LEAGUE AWARDS; SIX REDSKINS, THREE WILDCATS EARN ALL-STAR HONORS (2 PHOTOS) (2018-06-10)

THE VALLEY — Sayre senior Jordan Rockwell was named NTL “Pitcher of the Year,” and Athens sophomore Keegan Rude was voted “Newcomer of the Year” in recent all-star voting by the league’s coaches.

The Redskins had four players voted to the first team, and one to the second team, while the Wildcats had two named to the first team, and one to the second team.

Wellsboro’s Dalton Prough was voted “Player of the Year,” and Sayre head coach Jamie VanDuzer and assistant coaches Mike Cron and Joe Wheeler were named the “Coaching Staff of the Year.”

Rockwell posted a 3-2 record with a 1.44 ERA. He allowed 14 hits in 24 1/3 innings, while striking out 36 and walking 16. Opposing batters hit .168 against him this season.

Rude had a 3-3 record with a 3.44 ERA. He allowed 39 hits and 19 walks in 40 2/3 innings, while striking out 61. Opposing batters hit .225 against him.

FIRST TEAM
Connor Hanafin, senior, Sayre:
Playing the second half of the season with an elbow injury, Connor Hanafin batted .419 (18 hits in 43 ABs) with six doubles, two triples, and one home run, 22 runs scored, 24 RBI, and six stolen bases.

Connor Hanafin also drew 18 walks and had a .587 on-base percentage to go along with a .721 slugging percentage for an OPS of 1.308.

Quinn Hanafin, sophomore, Sayre: Quinn Hanafin hit .422 (27 hits in 64 ABs) with 14 doubles, one triple, 18 RBI, 10 stolen bases, and 26 runs scored.

Quinn Hanafin drew 18 walks and had an on-base percentage of .563. He also had a slugging percentage of .654 of a 1.217 OPS. He struck out just three times in 71 plate appearances.

Nate Kennedy, junior, Athens: Kennedy hit .403 (25 hits in 62 ABs) with seven doubles, 16 runs scored, 20 RBI , and 10 stolen bases. He had a slugging percentage of .516 and an OPS of .972.

Kennedy was also 3-0 with a 2.96 ERA on the mound.

Cory Stivason, senior, Athens: Stivason batted .405 (17 hits in 42 ABs) with five doubles, 16 runs scored, 19 RBI, and nine stolen bases. He walked 15 times and had an on-base percentage of .541, to go along with a .524 slugging percentage for a 1.065 OPS.

Nate Sweet, senior, Sayre: Sweet hit .427 (20 hits in 47 ABs) with seven doubles, one home run, 25 RBI, and 14 runs scored. He walked 17 times and had a .585 on-base percentage, along with a .638 slugging percentage for a 1.223 OPS.

Sweet posted a 3-2 record with a 3.04 ERA on the mound. He fanned 32 and walked 12 in 27 2/3 innings.

Sam Wheeler, senior, Sayre: Wheeler hit .458 (27 hits in 59 ABs) with eight doubles, two triples, 12 RBI, 30 runs scored, and seven stolen bases.

Wheeler also had a .661 slugging percentage with a 1.183 OPS.

SECOND TEAM
Joe Parshall, junior, Athens:
Parshall hit .327 (18 hits in 55 ABs) with four doubles, seven runs scored, nine RBI, and five stolen bases.

Parshall also posted a 3-2 record with one save, and a 1.84 ERA. He allowed just 30 hits in 45.2 innings, while striking out 52 and walking 21. Opposing batters hit .179 against him this season.

Jordan Rockwell, senior, Sayre:
Rockwell hit .346 (18 hits in 52 ABs) with three doubles, five stolen bases, 15 runs scored, and 18 RBI. He walked six times and had a . 417 on-base percentage, and did not strike out this season 60 plate appearances.
