WINGATE, Pa. — Sayre is one win away from an opportunity to play for a PIAA, Class A state title.

The Redskins square off with District 5 champion Southern Fulton here Monday afternoon in a semi-final match-up at Bald Eagle Area High School. Game time is 4 p.m.

Sayre enters the contest at 16-5 and riding a five-game win streak, while Southern Fulton is 21-4 and in the midst of a six-game win streak.

The Indians have outscored their opponents 27-2 in four postseason contests, while the Redskins have a 20-8 edge on their postseason foes.

Southern Fulton is coming off a 9-1 win over High Point Baptist Academy Thursday in the state quarterfinals, while Sayre edged Faith Christian Academy, 4-3, in walk-off fashion.

Both teams have ridden the arms of two pitchers through the postseason.

Sayre’s Nate Sweet, who will likely get the start, is 3-0 in the postseason. He has not allowed an earned run in three appearances, including two starts, allowing 11 hits and one walk in 15 innings, while striking out 11.

Senior Jordan Rockwell is 1-0 with a 1.62 ERA, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits in 13 innings. He has 11 strikeouts and six walks.

Gabriel Stotler, who will likely get the start for Southern Fulton is 2-0 with a 0.59 ERA in the postseason, allowing one earned run in 12 innings. He has yielded just seven hits, while striking out 14 and walking one.

Branden Lynch is also 2-0 in the postseason for the Indians with a 0.50 ERA. He has allowed one earned run on six hits, while striking out 14 and walking four in 14 innings of work.

Sophomore Quinn Hanafin and Sweet have been Sayre’s best hitters in the postseason.

Quinn Hanafin has six hits in 12 at-bats with three doubles, two runs scored, and four RBI, while Sweet has six hits in 13 at-bats with two doubles, and two RBI.
