ATHENS — Williams Nissan and the Athens Animal Hospital each posted wins in the semifinals of the Athens Little League Minors Division baseball playoffs Sunday.
The championship game is set for Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Williams Nissan 7, Jay’s Carpet One 4
Williams Nissan built an early 7-1 lead and held on for a 7-4 win over Jay’s Carpet One in the first semi-final match-up Sunday evening.
Williams Nissan scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead, then scored five times in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Frederick Bluhm and an RBI single by Lucas Greninger, to extend the lead to 7-1.
Brodie Walker stroked a pair of RBI singles for Jay’s Carpet One to close the gap to 7-4, but that was as close as they would get.
Ryne Osmond doubled and singled and scored two runs to pace Williams Nissan’s seven-hit attack, while Bluhm singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, Greninger singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, and Eli Vogell singled and drove in a run.
Eli Hobday singled and scored in the win, while Alex Thompson added a single, and Cartyr Cockroft and Nicholas Robbins each scored a run.
Osmond started on the mound for Williams Nissan, allowing one unearned run on two hits, while striking out four and walking two. Hobday finished off the game, allowing one earned run on one hit, while striking out six and walking one in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Walker singled twice and drove in two runs, and Duncan Thetga singled twice and scored one run to lead Jay’s Carpet One at the plate, while James Friend singled and scored two runs, Lucas Schultz singled and scored one run, and Wilson Kinsman and Matthew Rossettie Cabrera each added a single.
Thetga had the best turn on the mound for Jay’s, allowing just one hit, while striking out six and walking one in three innings of relief.
Athens Animal Hospital 15, Firemen 4
The Athens Animal Hospital scored five runs in each of its three at-bats en route to a 15-4 four-inning win over the Firemen in the second semi-final match-up Sunday night.
Peter Bertsch tripled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in a run, and Samuel Cheresnowsky doubled and singled, scored one run, and had two RBI to pace AAH’s 11-hit attack, and Brycen Wood singled twice, scored one run, and had two RBI.
Xavier Watson tripled, scored one run, and had two RBI in the win, while Eli Hobday doubled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, Jacob Saxon singled, scored one run, and had two RBI, Kamdyn Wheeler singled and scored two runs, Rodney Chapman singled, scored two runs, and drove in a run, Jacob Alexander scored one run, and drove in a run, and Griffin Smith crossed the plate twice.
Watson started and had the best turn on the mound for AAH, striking out six and walking two in two hitless innings.
Ely Newman doubled and drove in two runs to account for the Firemen’s only hit, while Keaton Sinsabaugh, Peyton Sinsabaugh, Tyler Goodenow, and Alex Arcesi each scored one run, and Collin Dawson and Keaton Sinsabaugh each drove in one run.
