|DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (MAJORS): ATHENS ADVANCES TO CONSOLATION BRACKET FINALS WITH 14-4 WIN OVER SOUTHERN TIOGA (2018-07-03)

MANSFIELD — Athens scored eight runs in the top of the third inning to sew up its third straight win — a 14-4 four-inning decision over Southern Tioga — in the consolation bracket here Tuesday evening in the District 15 Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.
Athens will now face RTL Thursday in the consolation bracket finals. RTL dropped a 4-0 decision to Wellsboro in the winner’s bracket semifinals Tuesday.
Athens scored two runs in the top of the first inning, and increased its lead to 4-0 in the second on a two-run home run by Kaiden Hyjek.
After Southern Tioga got on the board with two runs in the home half of the second, Athens extended its lead to 12-2 in the top of the third. The big hits in the rally were a two-run double by Hyjek and a two-run single by Nicholas Jacob.
Hyjek homered and doubled, scored two runs and had four RBI to pace Athens at the plate, while Evan Sickler singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, Korey Miller singled twice, scored three runs, and knocked in one run, and Tyler Roe singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Jacob singled, scored one run, and had five RBI i the win, while Lucas Kraft singled, scored one run, and drove in a run, and Connor Mosher singled and scored a run.
Sickler earned the win on the mound for Athens, allowing four runs — two earned — on five hits in four innings. He struck out five and walked three.
