WAVERLY LITTLE LEAGUE (MINORS) CORNING-PAINTED POST ELIMINATES WAVERLY WITH 11-2 WIN IN SEMIFINALS (2018-07-04)
Valley Sports Report CORNING — Second-seed Corning-Painted Post scored in every inning to pull away from third-seed Waverly for an 11-6 win here Tuesday in the semifinals of the District 6 Little League Minors Division playoffs.
Corning-Painted Post, playing as the visiting team, scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed in the game, but Waverly did close the gap to 3-2 with two runs in the home half of the inning.
Nathan Kellogg ignited the rally with a one-out double and Ben Shaw and Aiden Doherty followed with back-to-back singles to make it 3-2. Jerry Carnrike then ripped a line drive up the middle, but C-PP pitcher snagged and turned into a double play to end the inning.
C-PP led 11-2 after 5 1/2 innings before Waverly scored four runs in the home half of the sixth to provide the final margin.
Kellogg doubled and scored two runs, and Shaw singled and scored two runs to lead Waverly at the plate, while Carnrike singled and scored one run, Doherty added a single, and LaForest scored a run.
