Valley Sports Report
OWEGO Just when it looked like Maine-Endwell was right back in it, the Sayre 10U All-Stars erupted for six sixth-inning runs to post a 12-4 victory at the Owego Little League 10U / 12U Tournament Thursday.
M-E had rallied from five runs down to trail 6-4 after the fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth, Cam Ross came off the bench to ignite the uprising, leading off by beating out an infield single. Following an out, Brendan Cooke and Ronan Ault walked to load the bases, then Maison Apgar ripped a line drive up the middle to plate a pair of runs.
Brady Flynn walked, Jackson Varner walked in a run and Justin Koenig plated a run with a groundout. With their team now up 10-4, Jayden Kutt and Logan Zingeser drew walks, the latter scoring another run. Sayre's final run came home when Tanner Mooney was hit by a pitch.
Sayre opened the game with a pair of runs as Cooke reached on an error, Ault smacked an RBI double and Apgar scored him with a sacrifice fly. Cooke singled and later scored on an Apgar single in the third, making it 3-1.
Sayre pushed its advantage to 6-1 in the fifth when Ault was hit by a pitch, Apgar singled, Flynn was hit by a pitch and Varner reached on a fielder's choice to start the inning. Ault, Apgar and Varner would all score.
An error, a walk, another error and a hit batsman led to a trio of M-E runs in the bottom of the fifth, bringing them back into the game.
Sayre will face the winner of Owego and Maine-Endwell "A" game at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
