HAMILTON, N.Y. — Unadilla Valley 8th-grader Bailey Shoemaker, who won the New York State high school title in June, shot a 2-under par 34 here Wednesday at Colgate University’s Seven Oaks Golf Club to win the rain-soaked, and rain-shortened New York State 18U Girls Junior Amateur Championships.
Waverly junior Alex Tomasso shot an 81 Tuesday, and a 41 Wednesday for a 27-hole total of 122, which was good for 13th place in the 32-player field.
Shoemaker, who carded three birdies Tuesday, was the clubhouse leader with a round of 75, while Webster-Thomas’ Mikah McDonnell shot a 76, and Clarence’s Elena Lopez, Scarsdale’s Kaitlyn Lee, and Pine Bush’s Pasqualina Tartaglione each shot rounds of 77.
Chenango Valley’s Emily Gresham seized the early lead Tuesday with a hole-in-one on the 123-yard, par-3 second hole, but finished with a 78 and was three shots off the lead.
Shoemaker birdied her first hole of the day on Wednesday — the 290-yard, par-4 10th hole — to take a two-stroke lead over Lopez.
Lopez, who parred the 10th hole, and Shoemaker each played par-golf until the 18th hole, where both notched birdies on the 425-yard, par-5.
Tomasso shot a 42 on the front nine Tuesday, and finished the day with a 39 on the back nine. She shot a 41 on the back nine on Wednesday.
