WYALUSING — Freshman Roz Haney netted a hat trick, all off assists from senior Stephanie Klovekorn, to lead Sayre to a 6-1 win over Wyalusing here Thursday afternoon in NTL girls soccer action.

“We started off real quick with a goal by Roz (Haney) and then slowed down a bit,” said Sayre coach Tracy Mennig. “Stephanie (Klovekorn) and Roz really connected tonight.”

Haney scored the game’s first goal just 36 seconds into the contest.

With 11:37 remaining in the first half, Klovekorn scored on a direct kick to give the Lady Redskins a 2-0 lead.

With 7:58 left in the first half, Olivia Spencer put the Lady Rams on the board to trim the deficit to 2-1, but 51 seconds later Lauren Krall scored an unassisted goal to push Sayre’s lead to 3-1.

About six minutes into the second half Haney and Klovekorn hooked up on their second goal to make it 4-1.

Sayre keeper Camry Lane kept the lead at three goals with two diving saves on penalty kicks five minutes apart.

About 11 minutes into the second half, sophomore Courtney Sindoni scored her first varsity goal, off a “great cross” from Haney, to extend the lead to 5-1.

Haney capped off her hat trick with 12:34 remaining in the contest to provide the final margin.

Sayre had a 28-18 advantage in shots-on-goal, while Wyalusing had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Lexi Schoonover had 22 saves in net for Wyalusing, while Lane recorded 17 saves for the Lady Redskins.

Sayre, now 4-1, returns to action Saturday morning at unbeaten Athens.
