WATKINS GLEN — Watkins Glen took a big step toward an IAC regular-season title with a 99-79 win over Waverly here Tuesday afternoon in IAC girls swimming action.

Senior Kennedy Wheeler paced Waverly with a pair of wins.

Wheeler won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:03.77, and freshman Willow Sharpsteen was third in 1:10.23.

Wheeler teamed with Sharpsteen, senior Abigail Durgin, and sophomore Maggie Whitley to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:52.85.

Senior Starr Harford finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:18.54. She also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:59.62.

Wheeler and Whitley finished 2-3 in the 50-yard freestyle. Wheeler clocked in at 27.41 seconds, and Whitley touched at 27.47 seconds.

Benjamin finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:14.11.  She was third in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:40.11.

Durgin finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:19.86.

Waverly’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Sharpsteen, Benjamin, Lillian Keefer, and Harford finished second in a time of 4:26.8, but received first-place points due to the fact Watkins Glen swam the final event as exhibition.

Whitley finished third in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.42.

Waverly, now 6-3, hosts Notre Dame Thursday.
